I am thrilled to announce the release of Dotmatics ELN & Data Discovery Platform 7.1—the latest step in our journey to create the world’s most comprehensive ELN & Data Discovery Platform. Over the past several years, we’ve been on a mission to get some of the market’s best-regarded scientific R&D tools working better together, so that, in turn, your experts and collaborators can work better together, be more efficient, and make the most of their data to drive innovation. We’ve steadily been putting in the work needed to make your lives easier. We want you to trust that, with Dotmatics, you’re getting R&D solutions that ensure innovation is fast, not frustrating; collaboration is effortless, not arduous; administration is simple, not inundating; and integration is seamless, not fractured.
While some progress has been incremental, this latest release is a big one. It is packed full of changes across the ELN and Data Discovery browser that reduce unnecessary complexities, empowering users to innovate and collaborate more efficiently, complete tasks in fewer steps, and more easily access and analyze the data they need to make key R&D decisions. Below are more details on how Dotmatics ELN & Data Discovery Platform 7.1 delivers: major UI/UX changes that optimize user experiences; new scientific functionality to support Biology and Chemicals & Materials R&D; and seamless integration capabilities facilitated by flexible and modern IT technology.
User Experience Improvements
This version features a major interface and navigation overhaul, providing a more cohesive and streamlined user experience that will ultimately boost productivity. Many changes were directly informed by the feedback of users, whose input ensured development efforts were focused where they would deliver the most impact to users’ day-to-day work. Key highlights are listed below.
Cross-module Cohesion: Updates across modules create a more consistent user experience and reduce the time required to flow data in and out of complex, cross-module workflows; examples include:
Smoother transition and navigation between modules
Standardization of icons and patterns for a consistent user experience
Delineated data-in and data-out navigation—with optimized top-bar and side-bar panels—to better align with typical organizational roles and R&D activities, such as data input from laboratory work and tests (via ELN) versus data output for analysis and interpretation (via Data Discovery)
Refreshed lab-task-request functionality for easier submission, assignment, and tracking
Simplified administration with consolidated user and admin controls
Table Functionality Updates: Excel-like controls for managing and manipulating data replace legacy grids within the ELN Canvas form—the first of many table updates planned across the Platform.
Platform Configuration Hub: New configuration tools—first available within the Inventory module, but with broader availability across the Platform planned—make it easier than ever to define and manage the unique workflow and dataflow configurations that will best improve your teams’ productivity and collaboration.
Scientific R&D Workflow Optimization
Dotmatics ELN & Data Discovery Platform 7.1 delivers key changes that simplify complex processes and help accelerate R&D across different domains of science; for example:
Biologics: Data Discovery queries in the Platform now employ Dotmatics Geneious’ sequence-visualization library, marking the first of many planned uses of this industry-leading library across the Platform; this update will ultimately enable consistent sequence-visualization capabilities throughout complex workflows, allowing users to analyze and interpret their biological data using common visuals, concepts, and actions at every stage of R&D.
Formulations: Chemicals & Materials and Life Science teams alike can streamline their formulations R&D with new capabilities added to support universal aspects of formulated product development, such as:
Process Design: New tools for defining formulations, selecting test candidates, and tracking experimental outcomes
Multi-experiment Workflow Creation: Graphical interface for visually composing multi-experiment workflows and managing dataflow across experiments
Integration Enhancements
Dotmatics ELN & Data Discovery Platform 7.1 better enables the behind-the-scenes integrations needed to optimize front-end user workflows. These improved integration capabilities not only help researchers work more efficiently and collaboratively, but also make life a little easier for IT and technical staff.
Application and API Integration: Apache NiFi is leveraged to link to Dotmatics or third-party applications and APIs, ultimately providing the seamless interoperability, communication, and data exchange needed to support complex, collaborative workflows.
Luma Data Management Integration: Integration with Dotmatics Luma for data acquisition, processing, and management helps teams ensure they’re not only optimizing surface-level workflows within applications and interfaces, but also optimizing the underlying dataflows needed to deliver the right data, at the right time, in the right context, and at the right scale.
Instrument, ELN, and Dotmatics Platform Integration: RESTful APIs support seamless data exchange across the Platform, for example facilitating integration with Luma Lab Connect for acquiring and parsing results data from wide-ranging instruments, then associating that data back to experiments in the ELN, and finally collating all datasets for unified searching via the Data Discovery and exporting for deeper downstream analysis with specialty apps (e.g., Prism, Geneious, Vortex, and other Dotmatics or third-party apps) .
